A guided 5-minute prayer to help you live a life of intention. A life on mission.

Life is full. I get it. mine too. That’s why I need prayer.

I have so many intentions that I’m never actually intentional. Yet when I stop and pray, everything changes. Suddenly I’m reminded of what matters, and it's normally time with God and time with people.

I created this simple guided prayer to help me be intentional with what matters. It’s been helpful, and I hope it can be helpful for you also.

I challenge you to simply commit to it for at least 7 days straight. It will require 3 things from you… Focus, 5 minutes and the courage to act on what the Holy Spirit asks of you.

Here are a few tips to best position you to engage this moment well…

Prayer is simply a conversation between you and God. The best conversations are two-way and happen in places that allow you to focus and give your full attention.

  • Find a quiet spot without distractions.
  • Turn on some worship music in the background.
  • Clear your mind. Give yourself a moment to focus before you pray.
  • Slowly go through the following 5 prayers…

01. Become Aware of God’s Presence

Take a moment to stop, breathe deeply, and centre yourself. Become aware of God and His presence (Holy Spirit) as you settle into this time of prayer and reflection. God loves you and is inviting you in this moment to experience Him. Once you are settled, ask Him to speak to you. Intimacy with God and Knowing his voice is key to a ‘Life on Mission’.

Time: 1 minute

02. Consider Others

Take a moment to consider those in your world who don’t know Jesus yet. (Friends, family, colleagues, classmates, etc) Ask the Holy Spirit to identify 3 people that you could pray specifically for today. Pray that their hearts would be softened toward God and that God would draw them towards Him. ‘A Life on Mission’ is lived with others in mind.

Time: 1 minute

03. Ask for Meaningful Conversations

The Holy Spirit is always at work in the lives of those around you (including those 3 people). Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit WHAT is He doing in their lives and HOW you can join Him there. Ask for opportunities to have meaningful conversations about Jesus. Empathy and intention are hallmarks of a ‘A Life on Mission’.

Time: 1 minute

04. Meditate on Fruits of the Spirit

Take a moment to meditate on the fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control). They remind us that a ‘Life on Mission’ is not about ‘converting people’ but ‘genuinely connecting’ through love. Ask God for opportunities for these to be developed in you and displayed through you today.

Time: 1 minute

05. Pray for Courage

Take a moment to acknowledge that you have taken time to listen to God’s voice and to pray for 3 people. You have asked for opportunities for meaningful conversation and for the fruits of the Spirit to be developed in you. These prayers have positioned you for action. Ask God for the courage to act and respond to what the Holy Spirit asks of you today.

Time: 1 minute
